‘You can’t improve what you don’t measure.’
One of the many things that sets us apart at Orthosports is our commitment to improving patient outcomes through research.
You would think that it would be normal for a surgeon to collect their own data and have large databases, but this is actually really rare— not just locally but also internationally.
Orthosports funds its own team of data specialiststo collect and maintain a world-class database of hip arthroscopic surgery. Our research is conducted in collaboration with radiologists, physiotherapists, data specialists, and international arthroscopy colleagues. The interdisciplinary approach ensures New Zealanders are receiving best current international practice.
We are also involved with ‘AUT Millennium’ research that requires muscle and fat biopsies.
Through this research, we have published papers to help guide clinical practice internationally and contribute to the growing body of evidence.
But we do need you— we can’t do this research without your help
By agreeing to the research, your data is collected on our secure database. Whenever results are published, the data is fully anonymised so that your data is secure and confidential.
You will be asked to complete simple online questionnaires that take 5-10 minutes to complete online. These will happen:
- Before surgery
- 6 months after
- 12 months after
- 2 years after surgery
- 5 years after surgery
- 10 years after surgery
That is around 1 hour of your time split over 10 years.
With that hour, you are helping us improve and helping every patient like yourself that comes after you.
This data will help us answer questions like:
- Who benefits the most from this surgery?
- How much can you benefit?
- Can we alter the progression of arthritis in the hip?
We thank you for taking the time to consider this. Please find a link to our information sheet.
