Dr Warren Leigh

Dr Warren Leigh (MBChB, MMedSci Distinction, Dip Sports Med, FRACS) is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon.  He specialises in Orthopaedic sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and hip, total knee joint replacements and spine surgery.  Warren works at Orthosports, based at the Millenium Institute of Sport on the North Shore and operates at Southern Cross North Harbour, North Shore Surgical Centre and Auckland Surgical centre. 

Warren was born in NZ and raised in Tauranga before studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Auckland.  He performed spine research to obtain a Master of Medical Science with distinction, undertook a diploma in Sports Medicine, and then completed his Orthopaedic Fellowship training through the NZ Orthopaedic Association to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. 

Dr Leigh undertook three years of post-fellowship training both in NZ and Australia where he sub-specialised in knee, sports and spine surgery.  His first fellowship was with Adidas Sports medicine followed by a dedicated knee fellowship with Professor Julian Feller and Dr Tim Whitehead at Orthosports Victoria and La Trobe University, Melbourne.  Here Warren gained further experience performing total knee joint replacements and knee reconstruction.  He served as part of the sports surgical team for high level AFL athletes.  A further sports fellowship with Dr Matthew Brick at Orthosports focused on hip, knee and shoulder arthroscopy.  Warren then completed a Spine fellowship under Professors Rob Fraser and Brian Freeman based at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.  As well as degenerative diseases of the spine Warren managed traumatic spine injury from a far afield as the Northern Territory.   

Dr Leigh returned home to join Orthosports in 2013 and now cares for patients of all ages with both degenerative disorders of the knee and spine, and sports injuries of the knee, shoulder and hip in athletes of all ability, from the enthusiastic to the elite.  

Dr Leigh strives to maintain and deliver excellence in his areas of expertise.  In 2015 Warren was awarded the prestigious APKASS travelling fellowship and was hosted by SLARD, the Society of Latin American Arthroscopic Sports knee surgery, and is now a member or the Magellan Society.  In 2017 he was selected as the NZ Orthopaedic Association travelling fellow to the ASEAN regions and in 2020 will represent the NZ Shoulder and Elbow Society at the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow.  

In 2019 Dr Leigh graduated from Harvard University completing the inaugural Surgeon’s as Leaders course.  He is on the Board of Directors for the North Shore Surgical Centre, Milford.  

Dr Leigh continues to perform and publish research.

Warren is married to a fellow doctor and has 3 children.  He has a keen interest in all sports and relaxes paddling his surf ski, swimming and surfing and skiing with his family.
